Frequently Asked Questions
Please have a look through our Frequently Asked Questions below, or contact us for any other enquiries.
You will need to bring your dog’s current vaccination certificate, if you have not already provided it to us. We cannot admit your dog into The Dog House Pet Resort without proof of up to date vaccinations.
If your dog requires medications or is on a special diet, please bring these along with clear written instructions. Medications must be in their original packaging with the veterinary label attached.
You do not need to bring beds, bedding or toys, and if your dog is sharing a room it is best to leave personal items at home. We cannot guarantee their safe return as they may be chewed or destroyed by another dog, and there is the potential for resource guarding issues if your dog is attached to the item. We provide all beds, bedding and toys for our guests, so your dog will not miss out on these items during their stay.
If your dog is staying in a private room, we are happy for you to bring belongings that we can easily launder. Please do not bring large beds, but a blanket, T-shirt containing your scent, or a favourite toy is acceptable.
It is our policy to book all new guests into a private room for their first stay, but we are happy to assess them for shared accommodation upon request if they are friendly and social with other dogs.
Please note that we do have a list of Restricted Breeds that are required to holiday in a private room. Dogs who do not enjoy the company of other dogs are also required to stay in our private accommodation, regardless of breed.
For social dogs who enjoy the company of other dogs, we will match your dog with a companion of similar age, size, temperament and activity level for their stay.
Sending your dog to a kennel is like sending a child to school. If a virus is about, some will be affected and some may not be. It only takes one affected dog to spread a virus. At The Dog House, all our guests must be up to date on all their vaccinations, including their Canine Cough vaccine, and we turn away any guests showing symptoms of disease. However, most viruses have a lengthy incubation period, so occasionally infected dogs may slip under the radar.
Although we pride ourselves on keeping our facility clean to the very highest standard, no amount of hygiene or disinfecting can completely combat an airborne virus. If you leave your dog in any kennel, you should be aware that there is always a risk that your dog may contract a virus. The most common viruses that we see in dogs are Canine Cough and Gastroenteritis.
At The Dog House we have a vet on call 24 hours a day in the case of an emergency. If your dog requires a visit to the vet during business hours, we will take your dog to their usual vet, provided that they are located within a reasonable distance from The Dog House.
Within a normal day’s activities at The Dog House, your dog will receive between 9 and 11 human interactions per day.
All our guests receive 3 exercise sessions per day, and additional exercise is available if you book your dog into our Enrichment Program.
Yes, you may provide your dog’s own food at no additional cost. Please provide clear written instructions, and make sure all food provided is clearly labelled with your dog’s name, and if fresh or frozen be in daily portions. We offer baked dog biscuits or dehydrated liver as treats. You are welcome to provide your own treats if you wish.
You may check your dog in at any time during our opening hours, however we recommend allowing your dog sufficient time to settle in before bedtime so ideally check in should be no later than 4pm on the day of arrival.
All dogs staying with us are fed their main meal in the morning. We recommend that you feed your dog at home the morning of its arrival. A second meal will be provided to puppies, senior dogs, and dogs that require two meals daily for medical reasons. We feed Black Hawk premium dry food and Prime100 loaf. Both of these products are Australian made and free from any preservatives, artificial colours or flavourings.
You are welcome to inspect the facility between 11am – 2pm Sunday – Friday. We do not offer inspections on Saturdays. Please call us to make an appointment.
When dropping your dog off for their stay, it is best if you say goodbye at reception as this makes for a smoother transition and is generally a lot better for your dog.
